George W. Trendle papers, 1896-1972

This collection consists much of Trendle's personal and professional life. The oldest items in the collection are in family files, with photographs of young George and other personal school items dating to 1898. Other early items in the collection are in the financial files, with a property deed to Maidstone, Ontario dated 1921 (Box 32:3) and in business accounts, which date back to 1915 and journals dating back to 1910 (bound volumes).

George Washington Trendle was born July 4, 1889 in Norwalk, Ohio. The family moved to Detroit in 1891. Trendle studied law at Detroit College of Law, graduating in 1908. In 1915, Trendle worked as attorney and general manager for Kunsky Enterprises, a theater management company. Three years later Trendle became part owner of the Madison Theater with John Kunsky (who later changed his name to King).
